Students Testimonials
"Mariano was super helpful as a TA and always encouraged the students to participate even though it was an online setting. Anytime anyone had a question he would explain it in great detail until we all understood. He always has notes to screen share and uploads them along with the discussion recording each week. He's even said that he goes through the most difficult examples during the discussions to ensure that we would be able to do the relatively easier ones which I think is great. The only tiny criticism I'd have would be that occasionally his handwriting is a little hard to read but that is so minuscule compared to how much of a help he has been! " [Principles of Economics, 2022 Winter] "This TA truly cared about if the students were learning the material and if he was teaching in the most effective way. Nearly every week, he asked the student's opinions on his teaching style and the material or questions he was covering because he wanted to do what was best for us. He was extremely knowledgeable about the material but in a way where he could explain everything in a clear and concise way while also providing background information that added meaning to random equations we would have to memorize. Though he didn't get much interaction from the students (our cameras and mics were usually off), he kept up great spirits and it really felt like we were in-person. You could tell he was passionate about the course and teaching. I honestly cannot find a weakness for this TA. I often don't go to discussion sections in my other courses but I went to every single one of his because I knew that it was essential in having a better understanding of the course. I hope to have TA's like him in my other UCLA courses." [Microeconomic Theory, 2021 Spring]
"Mariano is an incredible TA! He truly cares about his students and is very good at explaining the class concepts. To be perfectly frank, Mariano was the reason I was able to learn anything at all in this class. He is great at explaining concepts that sounded very confusing in lecture. He goes at a good pace and makes sure to stop for questions. Even through remote learning, Mariano's impact is noticeable and I am very glad he was my TA this quarter." "Mariano was a great TA - if I could take another class from him again, I would! The way he teaches is very engaging and he's always willing to help students out on whatever they're having difficulty with. You would review the lecture material, clarifying anything that was complex, and he was very receptive to students' questions. Lecture and discussion was not mandatory to attend, but I still attended every week because it was very helpful and enjoyable. Mariano is super friendly which makes me feel comfortable asking questions and actually makes learning really fun! He's a great TA, knew the material very well, and was very helpful to students."
